Does GTA 6 Have Online? What Rockstar Has Actually Said
Rockstar calls GTA VI "a single player experience," and the store listings say offline play only. Here's everything official about online play, what GTA+ has to do with it, and what hasn't been announced.
GTA Online has been one of the biggest stories in gaming for more than a decade, so it's natural to ask whether GTA VI comes with its own version. Here's exactly what Rockstar and the stores say — and what they don't.
What's official
- Rockstar's June 24, 2026 pre-order announcement states: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience, coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S."
- The PlayStation Store listing lists offline play only, for one player, and PlayStation's own game FAQ describes GTA VI as single-player.
- Xbox's listing names "Single player" as a capability.
- None of Rockstar's GTA VI pages or Newswire posts announces an online mode, a name for one, or a date.
Where GTA+ fits in
The one online link in GTA VI's launch is a pre-order bonus. Digital pre-orders on the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store before November 20 get a free month of GTA+, Rockstar's membership for the existing GTA Online: a recurring GTA$500,000 monthly deposit, Shark Cards with 15% bonus GTA$, free and discounted vehicles, and the GTA+ Games Library. What about the existing GTA Online?
It isn't going anywhere for now. Take-Two's August 2026 results put GTA V at more than 230 million copies sold in to retailers, and Rockstar is still updating GTA Online — Take-Two's August 2026 earnings release mentioned a GTA Online summer update — and Take-Two's annual shareholder meeting on September 17 was reported by GameRant as saying the company will keep supporting GTA Online after GTA VI launches. We haven't found an official transcript of that meeting, so treat the wording as reported rather than confirmed.
Will GTA 6 get online play later?
Rockstar hasn't said. History doesn't settle it either way: GTA Online arrived about two weeks after GTA V in 2013, but that was announced well ahead of launch, while GTA VI's marketing describes it as single-player. Anything you read about a GTA VI online mode today is speculation, not an announcement.

What this means if you're buying now
Buy GTA VI for the story. Rockstar is selling it as a single-player game about Jason and Lucia across the six regions of Leonida, and the Ultimate Edition's extras are story-side items, not online perks. If online play is a deal-breaker for you, it's worth waiting for an official announcement.
